Ezel Bruin 6,5° - 1/4L

Ezel Bruin 6,5° - 1/4L
Ref: BB28307Z

Aroma is mainly caramel malty with some spicyness. Clear, amber coloured with an off-white, thin head,

In Flanders, "Ezel" {donkey} is a nickname given to specific people or even entire village communities. However, as the people of this area, the word "Ezel" symbolizes not so much stupidity, but patient and dogged perseverance, a perseverance that is quite conscious of its own quality. The same applies to this ale: brewed from raw materials of the highest quality, it has a mellow taste that shows a real personality.

Extra Stout Dolle Brouwers 9°-1/3L
Ref: BB28139Z

Very dark brown walnut color, the head is huge and tan, but has mostly subsided and disappeared. Huge belgian yeast nose of wierd dust, cobwebs, slighty spicy with underlying chocolate. First sip: Coffee and cocoa around the edges of a somehwhat sour and yeasty ale. Dry as hell at the finish, the combination of the dark sweet malts and the weird yeast is really enjoyable and makes it complex as hell. Long dry aftertaste of coffee chased Oerbier. Fantastic. Alcohol is well masked.

A very nice beer.

Fantôme Chocolat 8°-3/4L

Fantôme Chocolat 8°-3/4L
Ref: BB28173Z

Head is initially large, frothy, off-white, fully lasting. Body is hazy medium amber, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted grain/bread), moderately hoppy (flowers, lemon), lightly yeasty (barnyard, cobwebs), with notes of coriander, orange peel, peach, hint of chocolate. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Fabulous aroma that was very hard to define for me but ultimately the chocolate element was very very light and not always apparent.

Pours deep redish brown with a medium, frithy yellow-beige head. Fine lacing. Aroma is wonderfully spiced, some vanilla, some thyme, weak woodiness and apples. Low carbonation at first, but lives up in my mouth. Flavour is softly fruity tart, good apple tones, rather crisp and a fine caramel background. Quite earthy and dry finish.

Gouyasse is a artisanal blond beer, not filtered, not pasteurized and brewed in the respect of the tradition. It is refermented in bottle what gives him its semi-sparkling naturalness. Refreshing and containing 6% vol.alc., it is only manufactured starting from natural products: malt, hop, water and yeast.

Goliath (6% alcohol vol.) is a pure barley malt beer with no added spices and sugar. It is a high fermentation beer and is fermented a second time in the bootle to give it a natural sparkling taste. This light ale has a peachy colour with a fine, huge and creamy head. Its aroma is fruity (citrus) with a slight flavour of hops. Goliath is a slightly bitter and mellow beer, perfect balance of flavours. Its secret … the brewing according to traditionnal method, the character of the house yeast , the use of only prime and natural products. Goliath ? What’s the meaning ? Ath (Belgium), city of the giants, is a calm region full of tradition and folklore. Goliath means Gouyasse in patois from the « David and Goliath » legend and is one of the famous giants from Ath. The brewery situated at Ath decided logically to call their first beer Goliath.

Goliath is 9% alcohol by volume, a little more red in the face than your average tripel (almost an amber, really), nicely balanced with a bracing hop note versus a solid malt wallop. Goliath is the only Tripel in Belgium that is all-malt without any sugar or other additives in. (Everyone else uses some sugar to ‘thin out’ their Tripels, which gives them alcohol, without the body that you normally get from malt.) That means Goliath starts out a bit sweeter than some, but over time, as the live yeast in the bottle do their work, it gets drier and more punchy. The first batch, after about half a year in the bottle, is about where we want it, but it will probably become a greater beer as time goes by. We recommend that you check in on Goliath every once in a while.
